Comsys begins shipment of ComMAX Mobile WiMAX
First batch of devices shipped for integration into dmedia WiMAX personal navigation devices
30 September 2008: WiMAX World, Chicago - Comsys Communication & Signal Processing Ltd., a leader in wireless baseband solutions, today announced that it has supplied the first batch of ComMAXTM CM1100 baseband chips to Taiwanese handset manufacturer dmedia to enable it to begin certification of its G6 WiMAX-enabled personal navigation device (PND).
The G6 device adds WiMAX support to dmedia's successful PND platform. In May last year was announced that dmedia had selected Comsys' ComMAX processors to power their new line of devices, enabling them to support both GSM and WiMAX technologies via ComMAX's dual mode operation.
"Incorporating WiMAX will allow our portable devices to add continuous Internet connectivity to support their navigation, location and tracking features," commented Daniel Shih, CEO of dmedia. "When we selected Comsys as a partner, we based our decision on their established expertise in cellular technology and its integration with WiMAX. This proved to be a sound judgement, and the close partnership established between dmedia and Comsys has been influential in enabling us to bring advanced PND products to the market both efficiently and on schedule."
Elkana Ben-Sinai, Comsys CEO commented, "We congratulate dmedia on its innovative WiMAX-enabled PND, which is opening up new application opportunities with both operators and corporate users, and we are proud to have played a key role in the rapid delivery of this unique device to the market."
ComMAX CM1100 is a full Mobile WiMAX (IEEE802.16e) baseband processor designed for easy integration into mobile Internet devices. The processor enables cellular/WiMAX convergence while providing significant size and power savings, and is fully compliant with WiMAX ForumTM second certification wave profile requirements. It provides the complete Mobile WiMAX communication features essential for mobile internet devices such as feature phones, smart phones, PDAs and other wireless connected consumer electronic devices. The processor integrates an advanced OFDMA/MIMO PHY and MAC, and has been designed to operate efficiently with cellular baseband chips in multimode over multiple frequency bands. ComMAX has been specifically designed for low power embedded mobile applications and delivers support for both high vehicular speeds and optimized handover.
