CRISP WIRELESS EXTENDS LOCAL CONTENT STRATEGY WITH GANNETT; BRINGING LOCAL NEWSPAPERS, TV STATIONS ONTO MOBILE DEVICES
NEW YORK – August 29, 2007 - Crisp Wireless, a mobile technology solutions and services company announced today that it has extended its partnership with Gannett Co., Inc by powering mobile websites for more than 30 of Gannett’s local newspaper and television properties. This agreement reinforces Crisp’s leadership in helping major media brands make local content and services available to mobile consumers. Crisp Wireless has worked with Gannett, a leading international news and information company, since 2005 when both companies launched the USA TODAY mobile website -- one of the nation’s most recognized and trafficked mobile brands.
"In the ever-changing landscape of traditional and online newspapers, mobile offers a new channel for Gannett to connect with consumers and generate revenue via advertising," said Boris Fridman, CEO of Crisp Wireless. "Local content continues to be one of the top categories of mobile consumption and we are happy to help Gannett deliver their content to people while they are on-the-go."
Crisp Wireless built a scalable product to efficiently deploy more than 30 local newspaper and broadcast television mobile sites, including Detroit Free Press, Indianapolis Star, KUSA-TV Denver and WXIA-TV Atlanta. The mobile sites are ad-supported and feature a variety of targeting capabilities including support for local, regional and national campaigns. Gannett’s mobile websites offer local news, weather, sports and entertainment content along with a search tool to seek out specific articles and information. Features include photo galleries, the ability to send articles to friends, as well as detailed weather content with Today’s Outlook, Doppler Radar and Weekend Forecasts.
As part of these strategic partnerships, Crisp Wireless also helps market the mobile websites, including search engine optimization and traffic enhancement by sending links to the mobile web via text messaging.
"It’s important for us to have a turn-key solution to quickly and easily extend various Gannett properties onto mobile phones," said Matthew C. Jones director, mobile strategy and operations for Gannett Digital. "After Crisp Wireless successfully delivered a compelling mobile user experience for USA TODAY, we chose to expand our relationship and focus on some of our key newspaper and television brands."
In recent months, Crisp Wireless has announced local content partnerships with a number of newspaper brands and local content aggregators including Internet Broadcasting Systems, Tribune Interactive and Washington Post.
