Annual Revenue Grows 41% to $134 Million Driven by New Products, Global Expansion

INDIANAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Global interactive marketing provider ExactTarget announced today it finished 2010 with record performance, increasing fourth quarter revenue 47 percent year over year and boosting annual revenue 41 percent.

The company, which marked its 40th consecutive quarter of growth in the fourth quarter, posted annual GAAP revenue of more than $134 million and welcomed new clients and key renewals in 2010 including Groupon, Oakley, Toyota, Citigroup and Columbia Sportswear.

“Our growth and momentum accelerated in 2010 as we expanded our global operations, acquired new social media capabilities and celebrated our tenth year of operation,” said Scott Dorsey, ExactTarget’s chief executive officer and co-founder. “As the fastest growing marketing software as a service company, our record-setting performance allowed us to fuel innovation by investing more than $25 million in research and development in 2010 – more than two times that of our nearest competitor.”

Key highlights of ExactTarget’s 2010 performance include:

  • Acquiring social media management platform CoTweet and establishing a Social Media Lab in San Francisco to accelerate social media product development;
  • Powering more than 40 billion permission-based messages, enabled through significant infrastructure and data center investments;
  • Increasing contracted revenue generated outside of North America by more than 300 percent over 2009;
  • Expanding global operations to Australia following the acquisition of mPath Global in Sydney and Melbourne;
  • Launching the ExactTarget Nexus Ecosystem, the next generation of ExactTarget’s partner network featuring pre-built integrations with more than 50 technology providers including Salesforce.com, SAP, Microsoft, Omniture, Webtrends, Bazaarvoice and ATG along with a network of agencies worldwide including Razorfish, Merkle and Digital Evolution Group;
  • Unveiling the Interactive Marketing HubTM, the next generation of ExactTarget software that enables marketers to plan, initiate and track real-time marketing communications across email, mobile and social platforms including Twitter and Facebook;
  • Establishing a Pacific Northwest Services Center in Bellevue, Wash. to serve global clients including Microsoft and Expedia;
  • Hosting more than 2,000 interactive marketers in Indianapolis for Connections ’10, ExactTarget’s annual user conference and the world’s largest interactive marketing event, featuring a keynote by Sir Richard Branson and a private concert from award-winning band Train;
  • Expanding the professional services and support organization to more than 200 consultants worldwide to provide clients a full range of services from strategy and marketing operations to sophisticated marketing technology solutions; and
  • Adding more than 275 employees to serve the company’s growing base of clients, bringing total global employment to more than 825.

The news of ExactTarget’s record 2010 performance comes a day after ExactTarget and Tokyo-based NTT Communications Corporation announced an agreement to bring CoTweet, ExactTarget’s social media management platform, to the Japanese market. The partnership will make CoTweet’s enterprise Twitter and Facebook management, engagement and measurement application available in Japanese and will rely on NTT Communications’ existing sales team to sell the localized application.
