World's first FDD LTE single chip, GCT's GDM7240, meets demand for rapidly growing data speed and high mobility

SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- GCT® Semiconductor, a leading supplier of 4G solutions to the global market, today announced the commercialization of GDM7240, a highly integrated monolithic LTE single-chip, supporting all FDD bands. GDM7240 enables one of the largest Korean mobile handset makers’ commercial FDD LTE data cards which are now shipping in volume to major US operators. In addition, an LTE smartphone and CPE using GDM7240 is scheduled for introduction early next year by the same handset maker.

GDM7240 is the most mature LTE chip available today, ideally suited to meet the rapidly growing demand for higher data speed, higher mobility, enhanced applications and global roaming. GCT began shipment of GDM7240 in the second quarter of 2010 and is currently in mass production.

“By leveraging our extensive experience and expertise with WiMAX technology, we are able to provide a superior LTE solution that offers high performance, low power consumption and high throughput,” said Dr. Kyeongho “KH” Lee, President and CEO of GCT Semiconductor, Inc. “We are expecting significant LTE revenue growth next year due to operators’ aggressive worldwide LTE deployments and the outstanding performance and maturity of GDM7240. GCT is well-positioned as a world leading supplier of market-proven 4G SOC solutions, providing WiMAX single-chips worldwide since 2005 and now leading the charge for LTE.”

Characteristic of GCT’s other 4G products that capitalize on GCT’s extensive CMOS RF and single-chip expertise, GDM7240 is highly integrated and offers a full multiband transceiver supporting all FDD bands. This solution also includes MAC & PHY, RISC and a modem processor, with plug and play features that are ready to support all mobile LTE applications without the need for any device configuration. With four separate ports, this single-chip allows for many different frequency combinations, making it the ideal choice for terminal suppliers and operators worldwide. In this case, GDM7240 has been supplied to the Korean handset maker with a custom marking, recognizing the outstanding collaboration between the two companies.
