HBO® Joins Forces with Samsung to Offer New “HBO GO®” App on Samsung Televisions
Instant Access to Both Current and Archived HBO Programming Available Later This Year
NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Samsung Electronics America Inc., a market leader and award-winning innovator in consumer electronics, today announced that TV fans will soon be able to enjoy immediate access to more than 1,400 titles of HBO® programming, including every episode of every season of the best HBO shows, via an upcoming HBO GO® app to be offered via Samsung Apps later this year. The app, which can be installed onto a Samsung Smart TV™ or Smart Blu-ray player, will be available at no extra charge to HBO subscribers in the U.S., who authenticate through their current, participating television provider.
HBO GO allows current HBO subscribers to instantly watch every episode of classics like The Sopranos® and Sex and the City® and award-winning series like Boardwalk Empire® and True Blood® from the very beginning. Subscribers also have access to HBO Documentary Films, HBO Sports and a wide selection of blockbuster theatricals. In addition, the service will include bonus materials, soundtrack and cast information.
“Our HBO GO application is a perfect fit for the Samsung Apps platform, providing an excellent value proposition to both HBO subscribers and Samsung customers,” said Bernadette Aulestia, Senior Vice President, Domestic Network Distribution & Marketing, HBO. “By streaming HBO GO content directly onto a Samsung TV, we deliver exactly what consumers want - on demand, quality entertainment at no additional charge to HBO subscribers.”
“People’s viewing habits have changed and they want a smarter and seamless way to access the content they want, whenever they want it. They want to unlock the potential of their living room and our success with Samsung Apps is evidence of this. Through our partnership with HBO, we continue to deliver rich, interactive entertainment experiences to the largest screen in the house,” said Eric Anderson, vice president of content and product solutions, Samsung Electronics America, Inc.
HBO GO can be accessed by HBO subscribers from any U.S. location with a broadband connection. Subscribers can also personalize HBO GO using the “Series Pass” feature, which automatically alerts viewers to new episodes of preferred programs when they arrive on the service. When browsing, subscribers can also bookmark content for later viewing by adding it to their “Watchlist” or restrict content with easy to use parental controls.
