iCall Goes Social with Free Video Calling, Messaging and Communications Hub for the Desktop with iCall 7 Beta
Updated mobile platform for calling over 3G, 4G and Wi-Fi; turns iPad/iPod Touch into phone
DALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- The free calling revolution is here with the launch of iCall’s new communication and messaging platform, iCall 7 Beta. Known for letting customers make and receive free phone calls through their mobile device and computer, iCall has further enhanced the user experience by bringing HD video calling, messaging and collaboration to life.
iCall 7 Beta runs on any PC, Mac or Linux desktop. It integrates its own SMS, voice and video functionality, while also enabling users to directly interact with multiple messaging protocols, such as Facebook® Chat, Google Talk™, and Yahoo! ® Messenger. A central communications hub houses all activities and conversations, and the intuitive user interface lets users IM, video call, text and dial within one tabbed window.
iCall also provides customers with an entirely new way of managing their communications through iCall Voice, which they can access after registering for a free iCall account. The tool enables them to manage both their iCall Mobile and online communications. They can also customize calling preferences, route and screen calls, and set up other free features, such as call recording and voicemail transcriptions.
“With iCall, consumers can now enjoy a superior audio and video calling experience, with the added benefit of having an integrated communications solution so they can talk freely across various communication channels,” said iCall co-founder and CEO, Arlo Gilbert. “Our mission is to eliminate communication barriers, while promoting open standards and interoperability between programs and applications. We are consistently developing new ways for consumers to connect, so this release is a stepping stone to further innovations and capabilities iCall will continue to bring to its customers.”
iCall 7 Beta features include:
- Free, peer-to-peer HD video calling – iCall’s HD video calling software runs on any computer and is installed with proprietary Gaze Distraction Technology, so video calls are more like real, in-person conversations.
- Free multi-protocol messaging through iCall IM – Whichever messaging service used for chat, iCall IM has it covered. Users can message anyone for free, even non-iCall users. They can also share and watch YouTube™ videos, and preview URLs directly within chat windows.
- Superhero-grade security – iCall takes its no spying policy seriously, so unlike competitors, they don’t intercept calls or route conversations through unknown servers. And instead of just using cloud-based, SSL data encryption standards, iCall employs ZRTP voice encryption technology, which actually exceeds NSA standards and is the highest security protocol available.
- Phone calling without hidden charges or fees – Customers can call people who use regular phone lines, any carrier or any network. iCall doesn’t charge extra just because the person on the other end isn’t an iCall user, and customers don’t have to worry about hidden charges and fees. Free calls can be made to any number in the U.S. or Canada, and users can call anywhere across the globe for next to nothing.
- Free access numbers – Similar providers make customers purchase an online number to make and receive calls, but access numbers from iCall are free, and include complimentary voicemail. And depending on the calling plan selected, customers can also receive a private phone number for only $2.
- Free file and desktop sharing – Users can share screens and desktops, and transfer files for real-time collaboration.
- Interactive, downloadable apps – iCall proves that real-time sharing and exchange goes well beyond video calling through interactive apps that run within the iCall 7 Beta interface, like iCall Reader. The company has also opened its network to other developers to further enhance its services and enable a new generation of VoIP applications.
- Business collaboration tools – Complimentary business tools, including complete conference calling services, let businesses and individuals collaborate with groups, present ideas, and save money.
Free and low-cost calling is also available through iCall Web and iCall Mobile. iCall Web enables free, three-minute phone calls to anywhere in the U.S. and Canada through any browser, and free calling is made possible since incremental costs are offset with a 10-second ad that plays at the beginning of each call. iCall Mobile is a free downloadable app for iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad for calling anywhere there’s a Wi-Fi, 3G or 4G connection, and will soon be available for Android and Windows devices.
