Successful testing for Bluegrass Cellular demonstrates compliance with public safety and weather alert standards

FORT MYERS, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Interop Technologies, a provider of core wireless solutions for messaging, mobile device management, and connectivity gateways, today announced that its Hosted Commercial Mobile Alert System (CMAS) solution has been certified by the Federal Emergency Management Administration (FEMA) and the Department of Homeland Security. This certification follows the successful completion of testing on behalf of Bluegrass Cellular, a leading regional wireless operator in Central Kentucky.

The Commercial Mobile Service Provider (CMSP) Gateway Host Certification designates that Interop’s CMSP Gateway successfully delivers public safety and weather alert messages received from the Federal Alert Gateway to an operator’s network in compliance with the Joint ATIS/TIA J-STD-102. This blanket certification eliminates the need for other network operators selecting Interop’s CMAS solution—whether they have a CDMA, GSM, UMTS, or LTE network—to spend time and resources conducting testing with FEMA.

Completing the testing process well ahead of the April 7, 2012 CMAS implementation deadline ensures that Interop can forward alerts to network operators choosing Interop’s CMSP Gateway as soon as the alerts become available. Interop’s hosted CMSP Gateway provides operators with affordable compliance by significantly reducing the investment and staff resources needed to deploy an on-network CMAS system.

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and FEMA are implementing CMAS as a result of the Warning, Alert, and Response Network (WARN) Act, a federal law enacted in 2006. Presidential, Imminent Threat, and AMBER alerts will be delivered over participating operators’ cellular broadcast networks directly to subscribers with CMAS-compatible handsets, helping to decrease response times and save lives and property when emergencies occur.

“Interop demonstrated significant leadership and CMAS expertise throughout the FEMA testing process, completing testing in only four hours,” said Scott McCloud, Vice President–Wireless Networks, Bluegrass Cellular. “We are very pleased with how quickly and easily Interop obtained certification and are happy to be working with the industry leader to provide these critical alerts to our subscribers.”

“The successful completion of FEMA testing reinforces Interop’s ability to fully comply with this government initiative,” said Damian Sazama, Vice President of Corporate and Product Marketing, Interop Technologies. “We are glad to support Bluegrass in delivering these important alerts to subscribers throughout Central Kentucky.”
