Operators Choose Affordable Compliance For Delivery of Public Safety Alerts to Customers

FORT MYERS, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Interop Technologies, a provider of core wireless solutions for messaging, mobile device management, and connectivity gateways, today announced that two leading regional wireless operators, Inland Cellular and Thumb Cellular, have selected Interop’s hosted Commercial Mobile Service Provider (CMSP) Gateway to comply with the government’s new Commercial Mobile Alert System (CMAS) initiative. Interop’s hosted CMAS solution enables the operators to transmit government-issued public safety and weather alert messages to their subscribers while avoiding the expense and complexity of an on-network system.

Inland Cellular serves Eastern Washington and North Central Idaho, and Thumb Cellular operates in the Eastern region of Michigan. By deploying Interop’s hosted CMSP Gateway, the operators ensure their subscribers have the protection and security of receiving CMAS notifications issued by public safety and governmental agencies. Presidential, Imminent Threat, and AMBER alerts will be delivered over the operators’ cellular broadcast network directly to subscribers with CMAS-compatible handsets, helping to increase response time and save lives and property when emergencies occur.

The regional operators will deploy the solution upon completion of Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) testing as required by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).

Nearly all wireless network operators are expected to comply with the voluntary CMAS program. Participating operators must meet the FCC’s implementation deadline of April 2012. However, the largest U.S. operators have announced plans to offer CMAS prior to this date. With Interop’s hosted solution, Inland and Thumb ensure that their subscribers will begin receiving alerts at the same time as customers of nationwide operators.

“The Interop hosted solution enables these operators to comply with CMAS without the investment and staff resources required by alternative solutions,” said Fred Farrell, Vice President of North American Sales, Interop Technologies. “We are very pleased to assist Inland and Thumb as they support subscriber safety in their service areas."
