LiMo Foundation Joins the Wholesale Applications Community
Formalisation of natural strategic alignment between two major industry groups
LONDON--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- LiMo Foundation today announced that it has joined the Wholesale Applications Community (WAC) as an Associate Participant with a view to congregate developers around a robust application distribution ecosystem and an unrivalled addressable market. All future releases of the LiMo Platform will support the WAC runtime, thereby enabling LiMo developers to distribute their applications across multiple WAC compliant stores.
“LiMo is committed to promoting consolidation and co-operation amongst industry stakeholders around a common set of technologies in order to accelerate the delivery of innovative applications and services to mobile consumers globally,” said Morgan Gillis, executive director of LiMo Foundation. “We are excited to be part of this alliance of telecommunication companies and we believe that our highly complementary areas of focus, shared belief in true openness and common industry vision will create opportunities for deep and long-term collaboration between LiMo Foundation and the Wholesale Applications Community.”
“One of the key objectives of WAC is to drive web technology across multiple platforms by providing a consistent widget runtime and specifying a broad range of device and network APIs,” said Peters Suh, CEO of WAC. “We are delighted to welcome LiMo Foundation and look forward to working together to bring universal availability of WAC apps a step closer.”
Announced in February 2010 , WAC has made significant headway towards achieving its objective of establishing a simple route to market for developers and is expected to publish its initial specifications and SDKs to developers next month. As an Associate Participant, LiMo will participate and contribute to the various WAC working groups and will be able influence the future WAC specs and roadmap.
