Mindspeed’s Multi-Core Processors Combine Fast Packet Routing with Scalable Virtual Private Network (VPN) Performance and Support Remotely-Managed Value-Added Applications

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Mindspeed Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: MSPD), a leading supplier of semiconductor solutions for network infrastructure applications, today announced that its Comcerto® 1000 customer premises equipment (CPE) processor is fueling an advanced gateway from Mitsubishi Electric that has been deployed in one of Japan’s largest fiber access networks to deliver voice, high-definition (HD) video and data services. The gateway combines Wi-Fi and carrier-grade Voice-over-IP (VoIP) capabilities in an ultra-low-power design.

“Mitsubishi Electric is a major force in communication systems, and we are excited to be working with the company to help deliver a rich set of capabilities for triple-play fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) services in Japan,” said Raouf Y. Halim, chief executive officer at Mindspeed. “Our Comcerto 1000 multi-core packet processor gives Mitsubishi Electric’s gateways all the features and performance necessary for delivering the latest broadband services with industry-leading power efficiency.”

Comcerto 1000 processors deliver superior packet handling capabilities and robust quality of service (QoS) for demanding applications. The processors feature a unique, high-performance dual-core architecture that is ideal for simultaneously running remotely-managed, value-added Open Services Gateway Initiative Framework (OSGi) applications from carriers or third-party providers. Each of the Comcerto processor cores runs independently, enabling one to handle all OSGi applications, while the other remains dedicated to core gateway functionality including voice processing and IPTV routing.

"Performance and reliability are critical to our customers, and Mindspeed's Comcerto 1000 processor has enabled us to create a high-performance gateway with extremely low power consumption and carrier-class QoS,” said Norihide Yaguchi, Director of Home ICT solution business unit, with Mitsubishi Electric. “Comcerto’s dual-core architecture also turns our gateway into an ideal platform for delivering remotely-managed OSGi applications that enhance subscriber satisfaction while driving incremental new revenues.”

Mindspeed®'s Comcerto 1000 processors feature a unique, programmable software architecture that enables a high degree of flexibility and scalability across a wide range of designs including FTTH-based triple-play gateways, 3G/4G-routers and WiMAX integrated access devices (IADs). The processors take advantage of Mindspeed’s five generations of design experience using ARM cores, and its long history of leadership in carrier-class voice technology.
