KEYSTONE, Colo.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- BelAir Networks' newest product, the BelAir100SP Strand Picocell, was voted Best New Idea Likely to Succeed in informal polling at CableLabs® Innovation Showcase. The BelAir100SP delivers mobile broadband services over both 3G and Wi-Fi by leveraging existing cable infrastructure for power, mounting and backhaul. The BelAir100SP brings cable operators and mobile carriers together to cost-effectively solve the challenge of mobile data congestion.

“I think it’s brilliant that BelAir Networks is bridging the traditional chasm between licensed and unlicensed technologies by bringing them together in one small cell base station,” said Stéphane Téral, Principal Analyst, Mobile and FMC Infrastructure, Infonetics Research.

The BelAir100SP mounts on existing cable infrastructure, with both power and backhaul provided by the broadband hybrid fiber coax (HFC) plant. Available in a range of mounting options, the BelAir100SP can be installed on aerial plant or in cabinets and pedestals or underground vaults. The modular design of the BelAir100SP supports dual 802.11n Wi-Fi radios along with a range of 3G radios, with a migration to LTE.

“We’re really pleased that the cable operators at CableLabs® Innovation Showcase voted the BelAir100SP the Best New Idea Likely to Succeed,” said Dave Park, VP, Product Marketing, BelAir Networks. ”Small cell architectures are destined to play a key role in LTE networks and the BelAir100SP enables cable operators to overcome the traditional challenges to small cell deployments.”

Dave Park will host a live webcast: "Unleashing the Power of Picocells" on Tuesday, August 24 at 2:00 pm EDT and on Thursday, August 26 at 2:00 pm EDT and 2:00 pm GMT. For more details or to register, go to webcast.
