New Service Delivers “No-Wires, No-Waiting” Access to Your Personal Media While On-the-Go

BURLINGAME, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- The makers of ZumoDrive today announced ZumoCast, a new service that lets you enjoy your entire personal video collection at home or on-the-go through applications on the iPad and iPhone and a web browser on any computer. ZumoCast gives you your very own “personal cloud,” making the entire experience instantaneous and affordable even for large media libraries.

With ZumoCast, there is no longer any need to use wires for synching content across your devices. Moreover, you need not worry about how much storage you have on any device or wait for time-consuming uploads and downloads to expensive cloud storage. ZumoCast instantly enables your computer to serve videos and other media to you within seconds of setting up ZumoCast. You can also selectively sync videos onto your devices for offline viewing without wires.

“Video is the killer app on the next generation devices like the iPad and iPhone,” said David Zhao, creator of ZumoCast. “Just as the streaming services from Netflix and Hulu are transforming the way you watch subscribed video, ZumoCast is changing the way you consume your own personal content.”

While ZumoDrive makes it simple to upload and stream content from the always-on hosted ZumoDrive cloud, ZumoCast turns users’ computers into personal clouds that serve content directly to their mobile devices. By using people’s computer storage in this way, ZumoCast avoids the time it takes to upload content to the hosted ZumoDrive cloud and the cost incurred once it’s stored there. This makes ZumoCast perfectly suited for consumption of video and other media across devices, while ZumoDrive remains a great solution for sync, backup and sharing of documents and other files. Over the rest of this year, the two products will become increasingly integrated, allowing content to transparently move between ZumoDrive-hosted storage and the user’s ZumoCast personal storage based on the user’s needs.

ZumoCast and ZumoDrive use the same Hybrid Cloud Technology at their core. This Hybrid Cloud Technology includes two innovations particular to personal video consumption through ZumoCast. First, Cloud-Assisted, Peer-to-Peer Streaming ensures the accessibility and security of personal content from any location regardless of firewalls, communication protocols or connectivity levels that may exist there. Second, On-Demand Adaptive Transcoding removes the need for video to be encoded to a particular format prior to viewing on a device. Rather, ZumoCast handles the transcoding and streaming on demand in real time, automatically adjusting to the best possible quality supported by a user’s connection and device.

ZumoCast is currently available on the iPad and the iPhone and will be available on a host of additional mobile platforms shortly. Additional features like video sharing and enhanced music and photo interfaces will add to the richness of the service in the upcoming months.

The entire ZumoCast service, including its premium features, will be available for free during a beta period. Interested users can sign up for the private beta at www.zumocast.com.
