Sorenson Media EMEA Managing Director Mark Lawson to Join Transcoding Panel at Streaming Media Europe 2011 Conference
Panel Will Focus on Navigating the Array of Transcoding Solutions in Today’s Marketplace, Identifying the Best Solution for a Variety of Content Owners
LONDON--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Sorenson Media today announced that Mark Lawson, managing director of the company’s operations in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, will join a presentation on Cloud versus in-house encoding at the 2011 Streaming Media Europe conference. The event, which will be held in London October 18 and 19, is Europe’s leading conference devoted to online video.
Lawson will join Amazon Web Services Technical Evangelist Matt Wood and Jukwa.com founder Philip Haggar in a one-hour panel presentation and discussion entitled “Transcoding: In-House or in the Cloud?” The presentation will lay out the wide array of transcoding solutions currently available to content owners in the online video marketplace, the advantages and trade-offs of each approach – and the benefits of combining the two in a hybrid fashion – and guidance for identifying the best solution for a given user’s needs. Sorenson Media participated in a similar presentation to a capacity crowd at Streaming Media East in New York in May 2011.
“Content owners, from individual developers and small businesses to the enterprise, confront a dizzying array of transcoding options in the marketplace today – from Cloud-based solutions to in-house enterprise-level software/hardware configurations to services from content delivery networks and other third-party vendors,” said Lawson. “Navigating these decisions to arrive at the best solution can be vexing, even for the most discerning and sophisticated decision makers, whose choices will have a significant impact on the cost and quality of their content and its delivery. This presentation will provide sound guidance for these strategic decisions.”
Lawson’s leadership experience in digital video ranges from start-ups to giant entertainment companies, with expertise ranging from revenue generation to major contract negotiations. He has driven platform wins in IPTV for DVBLogic; driven successful sales efforts for DivX, HomeMedia Networks and Nortel; and led content and studio relations for Phillips, where he won site-license contracts with high-octane performers such as Sony BMG and Universal Music Group, Sony Pictures and Warner Bros. At Phillips, Lawson also helped launch Civolution, a content watermarking company spun out of Philips in 2008. He became Sorenson Media’s Managing Director for Europe in April 2011, and now also leads the company’s growing operations in Africa and the Middle East.
