DENVER--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Sorrento Networks announced today that Highland Telephone Cooperative, a telecommunications provider based in Sunbright, Tennessee (and recipient of the Broadband Stimulus award), has selected Sorrento’s GigaMux 3200 CWDM solution to deliver reliable, high-speed broadband services to rural Tennessee and Kentucky. The $66.5 million “Fiber Forward” project will use WDM technology to bring broadband to area customers.

“We’re very excited to bring this broadband project to these areas of Tennessee and Kentucky, thereby bringing exciting educational and economic opportunities to schools, businesses, homes, and more,” said Fred Terry, general manager of Highland Telephone Cooperative. “Sorrento Networks is the ideal partner to provide reliable, cost-effective broadband to the people and businesses here, expanding the Highland network to more than 1,700 linear miles of fiber. We’re eager to offer broadband services to an area that historically has had limited—if any—broadband access.”

“Sorrento is proud and excited to strengthen our nation through this important investment in Tennessee’s and Kentucky’s communications infrastructure,” said Jim Nevelle, CEO of Sorrento Networks. “The Gigamux 3200 provides an affordable CWDM broadband solution that allows Highland Telephone to increase the bandwidth of their existing fiber network. We’re proud to partner with a Broadband Stimulus award-winner to make a significant impact on the economy and way of life in this region.”

The GigaMux 3200 will offer a variety of services in the region, including SONET OC3 to OC48 and GigaBit Ethernet.
