Starent Networks Joins LTE/SAE Trial Initiative
TEWKSBURY, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 15, 2008--Starent Networks, Corp. (Nasdaq: STAR), a leading provider of infrastructure solutions that enable mobile operators to deliver multimedia services, today announced it has been selected to join the Long Term Evolution/System Architecture Evolution (LTE/SAE) Trial Initiative (LSTI), which is designed to validate the technology's capability to bring high-speed wireless broadband to the global market. Starent Networks, the dedicated IP packet core company, will bring its expertise to the LSTI to advance the delivery of LTE/SAE to the global marketplace.
The LSTI is comprised of global companies devoted to verifying LTE's ability to achieve the performance necessary to give a true broadband experience on mobile devices. It is divided into three main phases: Proof of Concept, Interoperability and Trial. Joint testing and reporting of ongoing results will continue through the end of 2009, with initial LTE system deployments anticipated for 2010. Member companies include Alcatel-Lucent, Ericsson, France Telecom/Orange, Nokia, Nokia Siemens Networks, Nortel, T-Mobile, Vodafone and others.
"Starent Networks is specifically focused on the mobile operators' multimedia core network. As a result, we are intensely interested in the promotion of technologies and activities that allow mobile operators to build multi-vendor networks with best of breed products," said Ashraf Dahod, CEO of Starent Networks. "We look forward to working with other members of LSTI to develop and deploy solutions that will power 4G networks."
Starent Networks is a market leader in intelligent solutions for the mobile operators' multimedia core network. Its products deliver superior performance in existing 3G networks, while being readily upgradeable to 4G/LTE. Starent's solutions already include many of the elements required of the 4G network, including integrated intelligence, simplified network architecture, high bandwidth performance capabilities, carrier-class reliability and enhanced mobility. Furthermore, Starent's solutions are capable of supporting multiple functions in a single node, allowing a single platform to concurrently act as a 2G/3G and 4G node. Starent's solutions are designed to be evolutionary, deployed through software upgrades. This approach is intended to protect operators' existing investments and eliminates the need for forklift upgrades.
Starent Networks will participate in and contribute to all three key activities of LSTI, including the Proof of Concept (PoC), Interoperability and Trials phases.
