Sixteen Cell Sites Enhanced With 3G Mobile Broadband Coverage in Sussex County

DOVER, Del., July 1 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- With travelers heading to the Delaware beaches this summer, staying connected along the journey creates a growing demand for accelerated data speeds that open the door to a new era of mobile services, devices and feature-rich audio and video content. AT&T* today announced sixteen cell sites have been enhanced to extend mobile broadband coverage along busy travel routes in and around Milton, Georgetown, Millsboro, Frankford and neighboring communities, the Sussex County Airport, and along Routes 9, 24 and 113.

The extension is part of AT&T's continual efforts to expand the scope, capacity and speed of its 3G mobile broadband network - the nation's fastest, according to recent data compiled by leading independent wireless research firms. The 3G mobile broadband network expansion efforts help address the growing demand for advanced wireless data products and services as more and more people's lives become increasingly mobile and fast-paced. With 3G speeds, customers can not only surf the Web and download files faster than ever, but they can also experience the very latest interactive mobile applications such as AT&T Navigator, live video sharing and remote home monitoring.

This network expansion builds upon previous investments in the state. From 2006 to 2008, AT&T's total capital investment in its technology infrastructure in Delaware exceeded $17 million and is part of AT&T's ongoing effort to build the wireless broadband networks that will create jobs, fuel economic growth and enable its customers' access to the content, applications and services that matter most to them.

"Delivering dependable wireless coverage for consumers and business customers who need to stay connected to work, family and friends in more places across Delaware is our ultimate objective," said J. Michael Schweder, president of AT&T Mid-Atlantic. "Our ongoing investments in the state will help us fulfill this vision while ensuring that customers in Delaware have access to the cutting-edge wireless services that help drive economic growth."

"Whether checking e-mail, uploading video or using award winning applications like AT&T Navigator, today's wireless customers want to make the most of their mobile experience," said Dan Lafond, vice president and general manager for AT&T in Delaware. "That's why twice as many Smartphone users in the U.S. have chosen AT&T over any other wireless carrier."

AT&T's wireless network is based on the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) family of technologies, which includes GSM and UMTS, the most open and widely used wireless network platforms in the world. As a result, only AT&T can offer 3G data roaming in more than 80 countries, as well as voice calling in more than 200 countries, in addition to AT&T's continuously expanding U.S. 3G footprint.

AT&T operates 6 AT&T-owned retail locations in Delaware. AT&T's products and services are also available at a number of other authorized dealers and national retail locations including Radio Shack, Wal-Mart and Best Buy.
