DUBLIN--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Research and Markets (http://www.researchandmarkets.com/research/g4d3rg/austria_mobile_m) has announced the addition of the "Austria - Mobile Market Insights, Statistics and Forecasts" report to their offering.

Austria's mobile market is fiercely contested by three network operators and a growing number of MVNOs and resellers. The competitive environment has led to relatively low ARPU for operators and some of Europe's lowest tariffs for consumers. The 3G networks have seen impressive growth in subscriber uptake, largely at the expense of existing GSM offerings. The incumbent's mobile division, A1, has expanded to Eastern Europe to incorporate lucrative neighbouring markets. Mobile broadband has shown extraordinary growth in recent years, while there is a strong interest in mobile TV streaming. Competition has led to significant market consolidation, with T-Mobile buying tele.ring in 2006 and 3 Austria buying Orange Austria in early 2012.

In this report we examine Austria's mobile market, providing historical and current subscriber statistics, an overview of key operators, an analysis of emerging technologies and data services, and forecasts for ARPU and 3G subscribers to 2015.

Key developments:

LTE to be available to a quarter of all Austrians by 2013

Mobile TV streaming success with more than 50 channels available

2011 Frequency Utilization Plan opening up 800MHz spectrum for 4G use

Spectrum auction planned for late-2012

Strong subscriber growth keeping mobile sector revenue steady

3 Austria launches LTE

Telekom Austria forms TA Group M2M subsidiary to manage its involvement in the M2M sector

Retailer Spar launches as an MVNO

3 Austria buys Orange

Regulator data to June 2011

Operator data to end-2011, market developments in early 2012.

Companies covered in this report include:

Orange

Research and Markets: Australia - Mobile Media - Mobile TV 2012 Study Provides an Overview of the Mobile TV Market in Aust

DUBLIN--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Research and Markets (http://www.researchandmarkets.com/research/cmg78t/australia_mobile) has announced the addition of the "Australia - Mobile Media - Mobile TV" report to their offering.

While there has been much hype surrounding mobile TV in Australia, the concept developed by the mobile operators has so far still not taken off. Operators were given a wake-up call with the introduction of the iPhone, as this started to separate content from carriage. Suddenly all kinds of applications, including video-based and offerings by the Pay TV operators are being available independently of the mobile network operators.

From now on new developments will revolve around the devices and their applications, rather than the mobile network operators as the operators really to need to focus on the provision of infrastructure rather than the provision of services where they do not have the specialisation.

However, mobile web browsing still grows exponentially, with a large share of that activity on the back of the rapid growth of smartphones including the iPhone, Android and tablets and BlackBerry devices. These mobile devices require more and more data bandwidth as the mobile apps that are being developed for the mobile market also allow mobile TV and video to be streamed. Unfortunately the mobile operators are having trouble keeping up with these mobile broadband demands. The mobile TV viewers are watching content off-net and now also this includes recording and viewing of Free-to-Air (FTA) TV, further diminishing the average revenue per user returns of the operators and their portals.

In this report we provide an overview of the mobile TV market in Australia with analysis on the marketing strategies, and also provide some background information on the technologies and players behind the service.

Companies mentioned in this report include:

Vodafone, 3, VHA, Optus, Telstra, Yahoo!7 and FANGO

Hot topics and technologies mentioned in this report include:

Mobile TV, FTA TV, video, spectrum, streaming.

Japanese Next-Gen Mobile TV “NOTTV” is Powered by Expway’s Mobile Broadcast Middleware and NTT Data MSE Embedded Developme

PARIS & TOKYO--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- NTT DATA MSE, a subsidiary of NTT Data and one of the leading system integrators in the world, and Expway, a mobile broadcast solution provider, announced today that their joint solution powers the next-gen Mobile TV service in Japan, launched 1st April 2012. The solution is being integrated in ten’s of Android mobile devices for this year only and it is expected to reach in 50 million devices in the next 5 years.

Expway’s mobile broadcast middleware manages on the device the catalog of all live TV events (EPG) and on-Demand (ECG) in a compressed and efficient mode. Thanks to the solution, NOTTV subscribers will have a large variety of fresh content with no download or buffering time, wherever they are. By paying a monthly subscription fee, end-users will get a myriad of content to their fingertips: Hundreds of premium movies, TV series, music, e-books, newspapers, games and magazines are cached on their devices, always in a crystal clear quality.

By using Expway’s solution, telecom operators are able to offload the heavy video traffic from their 3G network to the mobile broadcast network. The technology allows telecom operators to cope with the exponential growth of mobile video and still deliver the best possible quality of experience.

“We have selected Expway's mobile broadcast middleware after one year of technical evaluation. Their mobile broadcast middleware has proved to be the most robust and efficient solution on the market. Expway has also shown a strong experience in the domain after having done several Mobile TV deployments in the world. We have been working very closely together for the last year, to deliver the best solution for the launch of the NOTTV”, states Mr. Makoto Fukuma, Senior Vice President, from NTT Data MSE.

Expway’s FastCast™ adopts a new approach to TV and Video On Demand. Its highly optimized multicast protocol and error-correction algorithms make it possible for the broadcaster to send video files, video segments or metadata in the most reliable way. The technology ensures a 99.99% reception guarantee for pushed file, unlike any existing Push technology. And if the file is not received the first time via broadcast, only a small repair file will be sent at 3G.

“We strongly believe that our partnership with NTT DATA MSE ’s delivers the best to our customers in Japan. NTT Data MSE was extremely efficient in integrating, adapting and porting our solution to the Japanese market. We are also very proud that our solution was selected for the next-gen Mobile DTV service in Japan.” stated Claude Seyrat, VP Marketing & Co-founder of Expway, “The more people want to watch video on their mobile devices, the brighter the world looks for mobile broadcast. Let’s not forget that broadcast is by far the most efficient way to deliver large files and video to numerous end-users”, concluded Claude Seyrat.

The solution is presented at NAB in Las Vegas, on booth SU9602.

About the companies:

EXPWAY is the world leader in robust delivery in one-to-many (push) mode. Its solution is deployed by several broadcasters, telecom operators and device manufacturers for a variety of mobile broadcast and Mobile DTV applications. The company’s products have been adopted in more than 15+ commercial deployments in the US, Europe, Japan and Asia. With Expway, broadcast is much more than just TV.
NAB Show to Feature Super Session Exploring the Future of Mobile Digital TV

WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- NAB Show will present a Super Session on mobile DTV titled "Mobile Video and Mobile TV - Beyond YouTube," presented by NAB Labs. During the session, scheduled for Monday, April 16 in Las Vegas, industry experts will offer their perspectives on the future of mobile video and mobile broadcasting.

Consumer desire for media content anywhere and anytime continues to tax telecom wireless networks' ability to deliver video via their one-to-one architecture. As a result, wireless companies are imposing data limits on services that have raised concerns among content providers and consumers. On the other hand, broadcasters' one-to-many architecture has an edge in terms of delivering video to mass audiences with few constraints, an advantage that could serve the industry well in terms of meeting consumer expectations.

Peggy Johnson, who heads global market development for Qualcomm, will deliver the session's keynote address.
BARCELONA, Spain--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Mobile World Congress (Hall 2, Stand 2E33) -- Newport Media, an innovative fabless communications semiconductor company supplying products to the broadcast media industry, today announced it has reached a key milestone in company history with cumulative shipments of more than 70 million complementary metal–oxide–semiconductor (CMOS) SoCs that address multiple global standards for broadcast Mobile TV.

With the industry’s broadest portfolio of Mobile TV SoCs, Newport Media is experiencing rapid growth in demand for its CMOS SoC solutions which include RF TV Tuners, OFDM /Analog demodulation and hardware-based H.264 audio/video decoding functions. The company’s offerings support Analog TV, the ISDB-T standard in Japan and Latin America, and CMMB mobile DTV standards in China.

“Newport Media continues to experience rapid growth in shipments of our Mobile TV SoC solutions,” said Mohy Abdelgany, president and chief executive officer for Newport Media. “Achieving this key milestone of 70 million ICs shipped is a major accomplishment and a fitting milestone as Newport Media begins to expand its focus beyond Mobile TV into the wider broadcast television industry and other major communications system semiconductor markets.”

Newport Media supplies ISDB-T SoC solutions to the majority of the Mobile TV-enabled cellular handsets sold by Japanese-based handset manufacturers for the country’s highly competitive domestic market. Newport Media has moved beyond supplying to the Japanese domestic market by enabling non-Japanese handset suppliers to participate in the Digital Mobile TV markets in both Japan and Latin America. Examples include the previously announced Samsung Galaxy Tab and recently introduced Motorola EX139, LG X350 (dual SIM feature phones for Latin America) and Softbank’s 009Z Android smartphone for Japan from ZTE. These phones will be demonstrated during the Mobile World Congress at Newport Media’s booth located in Hall 2, Stand 2E33.

DUBLIN--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Research and Markets (http://www.researchandmarkets.com/research/65abba/usa_mobile_marke) has announced the addition of the "USA - Mobile Market - Analysis, Statistics and Forecasts" report to their offering.

US mobile subscriber numbers increased to over 300 million by early 2011. Although penetration levels are reaching saturation, mobile data revenues increased by around 23% year-over-year to December 2010 and are expected to continue to grow at very high rates between 2010 and 2015. Increases in data ARPU are largely offsetting the ongoing decline in ARPU for voice services. Mobile broadband was underpinned by the deployment and upgrade of 3G networks during 2009 and 2010. The launch of 4G LTE services by two mobile operators in late 2010 and the expected launch of 4G services from a further two providers in mid 2011 is expected to provide an even greater stimulus of growth in mobile broadband during 2011. This report provides analysis, key statistics and forecasts of the US mobile market.
