Vizio 65” Class Theater 3D HDTV Named Best Bluetooth Device of CES 2011
Samsung Galaxy Tab, iGrill, and BodyMedia FIT Receive Top Category Honors
KIRKLAND, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- The Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) named the Vizio 65” Class Theater 3D™ Edge Lit Razor LED™ LCD HDTV as the overall winner of the 2011 Bluetooth SIG Best of CES Awards at the It Won’t Stay in Vegas Tweet House event from the 2011 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES). Category winners Samsung Galaxy Tab (Now), iGrill (New) and BodyMedia FIT Armband BW (Next) were also announced.
“Thirteen years ago Bluetooth wireless technology was invented by a group of engineers looking for a way to remove the wires between consumer electronics products and as the finalists and winners in our Bluetooth SIG Best of CES Awards show, their vision has definitely become a reality,” said Michael Foley, Ph.D., executive director of the Bluetooth SIG. “The Vizio HDTV exemplifies all the characteristics that consumers have come to expect from Bluetooth technology – functionality, innovative design and the easiest user experience imaginable. It’s a very deserving winner overall winner of our 6th annual awards program.”
The SIG’s Best of CES Awards program is divided into three categories: Now, New, and Next. These categories focus on Bluetooth products available on the market now, such as mobile phones, tablets and automobiles, products new to the Bluetooth family, like televisions and stereo audio systems, and finally, products and prototypes that will become prevalent in the coming year, proximity and healthcare monitoring devices.
A record number of devices were submitted for consideration this year from all three levels of Bluetooth SIG membership. Each product was carefully reviewed and judged by the Bluetooth SIG based on a variety of criteria including interoperability testing, containing expected profiles, and ease of use. Bonus points were awarded to those products that included Experience Icons on the product packaging or the product website, and also for products utilizing the newly adopted Bluetooth v4.0 specification. After ten finalists were selected, one overall winner was chosen.
The overall Best of CES winner and category winners were unveiled at the It Won’t Stay in Vegas Tweet House event. The winning products will be featured in the Spring 2011 issue of the Bluetooth SIG magazine, SIGnature.
About Bluetooth® Wireless Technology
Bluetooth wireless technology is the global short-range wireless standard enabling connectivity for a broad range of electronic devices. The technology continues to evolve, building on its inherent strengths – small-form factor radio, low power, low cost, built-in security, robustness, ease-of-use, and ad hoc networking abilities. Bluetooth v4.0 unifies these evolutionary advancements and provides manufacturers and consumers with low energy and high speed features for connecting wirelessly. Manufacturers and consumers can choose to activate one or all of these features in Bluetooth enabled devices, depending on device functionality. More than eight new Bluetooth enabled products are qualified every working day and more than 30 million Bluetooth units are shipping per week. There are over three billion Bluetooth devices in the marketplace, making it the only proven wireless choice for developers, product manufacturers, and consumers worldwide.
