Whoop Acquires XOsphere Integrates Management Teams
Whoop, Inc. announced today a definitive agreement to acquire the assets of California-based mobile technology company, XOsphere, LLC and XOsphere's sister company in Latin America. Both privately held, the companies did not disclose terms, though members of XOsphere's management team will join Whoop's.
Mark Morel, chairman and CEO of Whoop, said, "The demand for rich, engaging mobile content is exploding around the world, so it made sense to combine XOsphere's technology and expertise with the Whoop Engine, a Software as a Service platform for creating, publishing and sharing of mobile content."
As a hosted application, Whoop serves as a Web destination where subscribers can create rich media applications, Mobile Web sites and text communications. On mobile devices, the Whoop Agent (thin client) is a mobile translator, interpreting content and rendering it with optimization for the device on which it's running. Ideal for mobile marketing, mobile entertainment, mobile communications, mobile commerce and mobile social networking, Whoop can reach billions of mobile phones on virtually any network.
Joining Whoop's management team are Andrew Dod, SVP of marketing, Demetrio Cuzzocrea, VP of creative services and Manuel Reyna, managing director of Latin America. Biographical information can be found at: http://whoopmobile.com/leadership.html.
"Great teams build great companies, so I'm particularly pleased to add Andrew, Demetrio and Manuel to the Whoop management team," said Morel, a five-time entrepreneur who this year sold Atlanta-based Procuri, Inc., a global supply management SaaS company, to Ariba for more than a $100 million. "After selling Procuri, I had intended to take some time off to consider options. When this opportunity presented itself, taking time off went out the window and I was full speed ahead, both as CEO and an investor."
To date, Whoop has been privately funded by Management and experienced angel investors - executives and retired executives who have founded, grown and led very successful companies to enormous market value and lucrative exits.
