Whoop Launches, Announces Funding

Posted September 17, 2008

Whoop, Inc. announced today a Web-based platform that
makes it easy for everyone to create, publish and share text, mobile content and rich media to
virtually every mobile device in the world. In addition, the company announced approximately $2
million in angel funding from a broad cross-section of investors.
The Whoop Engine is a Software as a Service (SaaS) platform with associated thin-client
software that addresses the technology issues that have inhibited mobile initiatives. As a hosted
application, Whoop serves as a Web destination where subscribers can create and share rich media
mobile applications, Mobile Web sites, and text communications. On mobile devices, the Whoop
Agent (thin client) is a mobile translator, interpreting content and rendering it with optimization for
the device on which it's running. Ideal for mobile marketing, mobile entertainment, mobile
communications, mobile commerce and mobile social networking, Whoop can reach billions of
mobile phones on every network.
"Fourteen years ago, the Web changed the way companies operated," said Mark Morel,
chairman and CEO of Whoop. "Smart ones embraced the changes and optimized their businesses
for the digital world. That transformative juggernaut touched every business and spawned new
products, services and models. Fast forward to today and smart companies see the next juggernaut
bearing down: mobile. Whoop is in the vanguard of the market, offering a simple, easy and
affordable way for companies to engage with their customers, prospects, employees and partners
right in the palm of their hands."
Major elements of the Whoop Engine are:
- Whoop Creative Suite is a Web-based publishing platform for the creation and sharing
of mobile content and applications over virtually every wireless network;
- Whoop Management System directs the delivery of just-the-right content to every
handset and includes robust tracking, auditing, analytics and reporting; and
- Whoop Agent is a small piece of software delivered wirelessly with requested content,
and it acts as an interactive tuner and transmitter for engaging mobile experiences.
Available via subscription to companies, agencies and publishers, Whoop is conducting a
limited roll-out of the Whoop Engine this month with broad, global availability planned in October, 2008.
To support development, marketing and sales, Whoop raised approximately $2 million from
a handful of angel investors, including executives and retired executives who have founded, grown
and led very successful companies to enormous market value and lucrative exits. Whoop investors
have held senior executive roles or served on the boards of Accenture, Shearson, Dominos Pizza,
MySpace, Procter & Gamble, TRW and WebMD.
Steve Haynes, lead investor for Glengary LLC, said, "Huge market, scalable SaaS platform,
experienced management and focused vision: What's not to love about Whoop? Importantly, we
invested in a previous venture run by members of the management team, and their efforts
generated substantial returns for us. We're expecting a repeat performance and are confident
Whoop will be another home run."
"Operating under the radar, we've garnered the support of some very significant investors
which has allowed us to complete the Whoop Engine," said Morel. "Going forward, we'll be widening
that net as we begin our Series A raise."
