WiMAX leader Telsima announces shipment of 10,000 base station sectors; details innovative Mobile WiMAX strategy
Sunnyvale, California, September 17, 2007 - Telsima Corporation, a global leader in WiMAX systems and the overall market segment leader in WiMAX deployments, today announced contracts with Tier-1 operators and that it will be shipping a total of 10,000 WiMAX base station sectors and 100,000 WiMAX subscriber stations in 2007. The equipment shipping is part of company's line of WiMAX Forum certifiedâ„¢ base stations and subscriber stations that support Telsima's D+E Dual Mode for a smooth migration to 802.16e-2005 compliant Mobile WiMAX networks.
In addition, the company announced its complete line of standards-based Mobile WiMAX base stations and subscriber equipment as well as a new architecture that is currently undergoing field trials by Tier-1 operators. Called the TRUFLE ASN mobility framework, it enables nomadic and portable solutions today which give Telsima a clear head start in mobility-enabled WiMAX network deployments.
Currently installed in commercial WiMAX networks by Tier-1 operators, including, VSNL and Reliance Communications, Telsima's award-winning StarMAX product line delivers economic benefits through innovation that enables operators to deploy profitable, standards-based WiMAX networks even in Emerging Markets. Telsima has already deployed thousands of base stations and tens of thousands of subscriber units on behalf of Reliance Communications and VSNL for mobility enabled WiMAX networks effectively making the company the global market leader in mobility enabled WiMAX equipment.
With today's announcement, Telsima is poised to expand its leadership to the mobile WiMAX space by delivering a complete line of standards-based Mobile WiMAX equipment as well as a new architecture for mobile WiMAX networks that delivers new benchmarks in scalability and mobile broadband service delivery.
"Telsima was able to achieve this goal by focusing on the creation of systems that would revolutionize the economics of the mobile WiMAX networks through technical innovation. The ongoing conundrum for most operators considering WiMAX is that the markets with the greatest potential for growth also have extreme price sensitivity. Most incumbent vendors' WiMAX systems are delivered at a performance/cost points that are not economically viable for Emerging Markets. We recognized this issue from the beginning and architected our systems to deliver technology innovation and economical advantages to enable operators develop a profitable business. Further, a major part of our urban Indian and overseas deployments run MIMO Antenna Diversity, delivering better coverage to enable profitable residential broadband services. With this, Telsima is currently the only vendor with commercial WiMAX MIMO field deployments world-wide. We believe that our success with Tier-1 operators in India and many other countries validates this approach." said Dr. Alok Sharma, Telsima's CEO.
Telsima Mobile WiMax Products & Innovations
Telsima is now delivering the full spectrum of Mobile WiMAX products for end-to-end Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) networks. The Telsima line of StarMAX products is IEEE 802.16e-2005 compliant and supports 450 MHz, 2.5GHz, 3.3GHz and 3.5GHz bands. It includes ASN-GW, TRUFLE ASN-CS, Mobile WiMAX Macro and Pico base stations, Tier 1 proven Network Management System, Indoor and Outdoor Modems and PC Cards.
Telsima has also developed a new architecture called TRUFLEâ„¢ ASN for migration to Mobile WiMAX networks for those operators who have a need to serve fixed and mobile users with the same WiMAX network. TRUFLE ASN allows for operators to profitably operate 802.16e network with fixed and mobile users and to migrate to a fully Mobile WiMAX network based on their business needs. This new architecture, which is currently being field-tested by Tier-1 operators, is NWG compatible - allowing operators to upgrade the network to Profile A or C compliant Mobile WiMAX while leveraging their initial infrastructure investment.
Based on standard networking equipment in order to cut the high capital and operating expenditures associated with new network deployments, Telsima's TRUFLE ASN architecture uses an ASN Control System (ASN-CS) in addition to the base stations. The ASN-CS represents the control plane solution while the network's data path is handled by the base stations. The division of control path and data path enables the overall system to scale well and at the same time a centralized controller ensures that the network is used at optimum efficiency.
TRUFLE ASN allows operators to invest in Mobile WiMAX smoothly, by first ensuring high revenues with a lower infrastructure cost from stationary enterprise customers and initial mobile users based on TRUFLE ASN-CS and upgrading to ASN-GW Mobile WiMAX once the business case justifies higher investments. Since TRUFLE ASN is based on the same base station infrastructure, the operator's investment can be fully leveraged in establishing the new network. In competitive environments, TRUFLE ASN operators will derive higher margins from their network operations than with other architectures. "In order for WiMAX to reach its full potential, vendors need to deliver standards-based systems that provide high-performance but enable profitable business models for the operators," said Godfrey Chua, Research Manager for IDC's Wireless and Mobile Infrastructure service. "With its emphasis on designing equipment for Emerging Markets, Telsima has shown, as evidenced by its recent Tier-1 customer wins in India, that it can indeed provide a solution that delivers a positive ROI amidst a challenging economic environment."
Interested parties can find out more about Telsima and its products at this year's WiMAX World conference and trade show, taking place at McCormick Place in Chicago, USA, from September 25-27. Telsima will be showcasing its entire product portfolio in booth # 408.
