‘YES’ Selects Celeno to participate in Wi-Fi trial for the new Over-the-Top VOD service
Israeli satellite provider trials Celeno Wi-Fi technology to give consumers more freedom at home with wireless video distribution
LONDON--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Celeno Communications, a leading provider of semiconductors for multimedia Wi-Fi home networking applications, announced today that 'yes', Israel’s leading satellite provider selected a Celeno Wi-Fi chipset to participate in a home network trial which will enable its customers to use wireless streaming of SD/HD Video on Demand (VoD) services in the home. The company’s 576,000 subscriber base will enjoy the flexibility and choice to break free from the limits of a wire-based solution while maintaining an affordable cost structure for both 'yes' and its customers.
The new VOD service, launched under the name yesMaxTotal already supports about 10,000 titles and every month, hundreds of additional titles will be added to the inventory. The service distributes video content to customers’ homes over the public internet using a broadband connection. This innovative concept is among the first of its kind and allows the satellite company to compete effectively with its cable-based competitors.
The Wi-Fi solution is enabled by hybrid satellite/IP set-top boxes that receive the VOD content wirelessly from the DSL modem using low-cost Ethernet or USB Wi-Fi adaptors powered by Celeno chipsets. 'yes' benefits from fast, cost-effective installations and its customers enjoy a wire-like viewing experience without the constraints of a Coax infrastructure.
“We are very pleased with the Celeno’s Wi-Fi performance and robustness tested in the pilot. It streams our video content throughout the home with a flicker-free viewing experience,” said Itzhak Elyakim, VP Engineering and CTO at 'yes'. “The Celeno wireless solution will allow us to better serve our customers by installing the service quickly in homes with virtually no disruptions to our customers. It provides them with the flexibility to place their HDTV sets anywhere in the house.”
Celeno 802.11 System on Chip (SoC) is a self contained silicon and firmware solution specifically designed for streaming HD video over Wi-Fi applications. Its OptimizAir™ feature set includes the first field-proven Implicit Transmit Digital Beamforming MIMO technique which enables live, concurrent streaming of multiple HD streams to the edge of the house, reliably and cost effectively. By using phased array radar like signal processing techniques it delivers the Wi-Fi signals directly to the targeted set-top boxes with consistent flicker-free quality.
“Leveraging wireless distribution of HD IP-based content over carrier-grade Wi-Fi is becoming the solution of choice for many innovative service providers,” said Gilad Rozen, CEO and President of Celeno. “We believe Celeno’s Wi-Fi solution will provide ‘yes’ with a significant competitive edge.”
Celeno is a leading provider of high performance Wi-Fi chips for HD multimedia and entertainment home networking applications. Powered by Celeno's system-on-chip (SoC) and its OptimizAIR™ technology, home gateways, multi-room DVRs and media servers can distribute multiple and simultaneous HD video streams to standard set-top boxes, PCs, television sets and other Wi-Fi enabled consumer devices.
