Japanese carrier KDDI posted a 4.7 percent rise in profit for its quarter ending in September, as its mobile assets offset declining revenues in its fixed-line business. KDDI also increased its subscriber base to 29.2 million, up 10.7 percent from 26.4 million a year ago. Since Japan recently instituted number portability rules, competition between carriers in the country has intensified.
