President, wireless networks at Alcatel-Lucent
Like many wireless executives, Mary Chan started her career in 1985 at AT&T Bell Labs where she honed her engineering talents and laid the foundation for her long-time career with Lucent and then Alcatel-Lucent.
Chan currently leads the wireless networks organization at Alcatel-Lucent where she is responsible for the CDMA networks and mobile access business division that covers all wireless technologies including CDMA, W-CDMA, GSM, WiMAX and TD-SCDMA.
Chan's role is particularly important to one U.S. carrier--Verizon Wireless. Verizon, of course, is one of Alcatel-Lucent's biggest U.S. customers and the carrier awarded the vendor a $6 billion contract in 2007 for its EV-DO Rev. A and IMS gear.
