Sony Ericsson has been on uneven ground for some time, and finds itself in a precarious position now. The company posted a $247 million loss in the fourth quarter [1], down from a profit of $495 million in the year-ago period, as sales dropped amid weakening consumer demand during the economic recession. Sony Ericsson CEO Hideki Komiyama recently said that the company would focus on high-end devices [2], even if that meant a less diverse portfolio for the time being, and that he expected a challenging 2009. The company also recently dealt with a bout of corporate espionage [3].
