Alcatel-Lucent said it plans to raise as much as $1.4 billion by issuing convertible bonds, which will help finance its debt. The company, which reported a quarterly profit (mainly on asset sales) in the second quarter for the first time since the company was formed in 2006, is in the middle of a restructuring plan. The move has been viewed by some as a positive step, since it will put the firm in a better financial position. Alcatel-Lucent has around $5.69 billion in long-term debt. Article [1]
