Why it was a Fierce 15: TeleNav had a long list of carrier and technical partners that included AT&T, Sprint Nextel, Nokia and RIM, and had a number of firsts under its belt: the first to launch a GPS navigation system on a mobile phone, the first to launch 3D maps, and the first to offer intelligent traffic and one-click rerouting. Other innovative features from the company included the ability to search for more than 10 million points of interest along a specified route, voice and on-screen, turn-by-turn directions, and speech recognition technology. What has happened since it was awarded the Fierce 15: TeleNav remains a leader in the mobile navigation space. It picked up T-Mobile UK as a customer; partnered with TelCel, a major wireless carrier in Latin America; unveiled Shotgun, a two-way, Internet-connected GPS device; got TeleNav GPS Navigator in Blackberry App World; and, recently, partnered with T-Mobile USA to put its service on the myTouch 3G.
