In an attempt to put to rest persistent talk of Deutsche Telekom selling its US subsidiary T-Mobile USA, the company said it may acquire small US mobile service providers on top of its planned bid for spectrum in rural markets. T-Mobile is a distant fourth in the competitive US carrier landscape, especially in high-speed wireless services. The company claims a lack of spectrum is its primary barrier to building out data services and plans to bid for spectrum next year. After rampant consolidation within the market, smaller carriers are T-Mobile's best option.
