Test and measurement company Spirent Communications is acquiring Scientific Software Engineering for $10 million in cash and another $6 million if specific financial targets are met. Scientific Software focuses on mobile-data network performance and has been a long-time strategic partner of Spirent's. Scientific helped build Spirent's CDMA2000 and GPRS/UMTS network performance test systems that simulate data traffic on networks. Spirent says the acquisition strengthens its IMS (IP Multimedia Subsystem) and fixed/mobile convergence test capabilities.
