Samsung ready for TD-SCDMA

Samsung said it has passed all of China's requirements for developing mobile handsets that incorporate Time Division-Synchronous Code Division Multiple Access (TD-SCDMA) technology, China's homegrown 3G technology. Developed to bypass royalty payments to foreign companies, TD-SCDMA is under a microscope with China's mobile operators saying it will give them a disadvantage since W-CDMA already has the economies of scale. Nevertheless, 3G licenses using TD-SCDMA are expected later this year but it is widely believed that China will offer licenses for alternatives such as CDMA-2000 and W-CDMA later.
