GigaOM has an exclusive report that claims Modeo will launch its beta DVB-H-based mobile TV network in New York City on Monday. The launch was originally anticipated by the end of last year, but a failure to sign on carrier partners and the subsequent departure of the Crown Castle unit's mobile TV head slowed the launch down [1]. The Monday launch is strategic since it coincides with the giant Consumer Electronics Show, which takes place in Las Vegas next week. Pundits expect Modeo to use the launch as a way to attract carrier partners [2] to its service. Nokia should also be pleased since the New York launch makes for a sizeable live network for demonstrating its DVB-H handsets.
