Who are the world's Tier 2 handset makers?

Tools

9. Kyocera

9. Kyocera

Burden's take: Kyocera entered the handset business in 2000 with the purchase of Qualcomm's wireless handset business. As such, for most of its history Kyocera has focused exclusively on the CDMA handset market. Kyocera handsets tend to fall in the low- to mid-range for price and technology; however, ABI believes that Kyocera will begin to move up the value ladder as it begins to work with Android and LTE devices.

Kyocera recently purchased Sanyo's handset business and will slowly begin to merge its operations during the next three years. ABI believes that Kyocera will continue to grow market share as its U.S. and Latin American business ramps up GSM handset production.
