Noted for: Banjo
Banjo's flagship app of the same name is a real-time social networking aggregator. The app works by pulling together information from over 10 sites like Twitter and Tumblr, enabling users to connect with other people in a given location and by interest. The app went live in June and garnered over 300,000 users by its 4 month birthday, and is on pace to surpass a million users by the end of its first year, faster than Twitter, 4square or even Facebook, according to Banjo CEO Damien Patton. The app, in addition, has an engagement rate of over six minutes per session.
What's next: Patton told FierceDeveloper that the company is currently testing eight new languages and will be releasing them before the end of the year. In addition, the company is looking at and planning to expand the app to additional platforms, though Patton would not confirm any specifics.
