Deutsche Telekom's T-Mobile USA will merge with flat-rate player MetroPCS (NYSE:PCS). The deal will combine T-Mobile's 33.2 million customers with MetroPCS' 9.3 million customers, and represents the latest major consolidation in the U.S. wireless industry. 

The agreement will have a wide-ranging impact on the nation's handset, network and mobile content providers, and could represent a new shift in the balance of power among the nation's wireless carriers (if it is approved by regulators).
