Top Women in Wireless

Tools

Take a look at the top management of most wireless firms and you'll be hard-pressed to find many women executives. The telecom industry is notoriously male-dominated and the wireless segment is no different. But the odds are improving thanks to many of the women who have made our list of top women in the wireless industry.

These power players were selected for their technical savvy, their leadership and perhaps most importantly, their influence in an industry where female executives are a rarity.

Christina Domecq is one of the most brilliant people working in wireless today -- female or otherwise. It is nice to see that she's being recognized for the transformative effect her company is having on the wireless marketplace today.

I am surprised that Cindy Patterson did not make this list. After a distinguished career with Verizon Wireless, she has embarked on another successful career with Jasper Wireless. A pioneer in the business and a true leader, we can now witness her effect on the M2M world.

My hats off to all these ladies who have pushed through the "sea of men" and made themselves a prominent career path and voice in the wireless industry today.

Working in the wireless industry myself, and being a women nonetheless, has it battles. I look up to these women and all women, who have found their place, in this industry and others, to become successful and recognized for their value.

WERE IS CARLY OF HP FAME? IF YOU WERE TO TURN THIS AROUND, WHAT WOULD BE SAID IF I WAS SURROUNDED BY A "SEA OF WOMEN?" -JWM

The infamous Kori Jones was not mentioned either, for the at&t California, Hawaii and Las Vegas Markets (_8(I)

As I've said before, this list is not inclusive and there are other women in the industry who work hard and are deserving of recognition but we selected women that we hear speak at industry conferences and talk to industry press. These are women who play a key role not just in the companies where they work but also in the industry at large. Sue Marek

I'm really surprised that Kathy Paladino, who is the head of the Enterprise Mobility business unit (former Symbol) at Motorola did not make this list.

It is very strange that, Patricia Russo, the CEO of a top-3 Worldwide Telecom vendor, Alcatel Lucent, is not part of this list.

Is this list just for the US readers - Christine apart, the rest are US centric; or does the rest of the world not have any world class female executives? Happy to be proven wrong on this point!

Yes, most of our readers are in the U.S. and our coverage is U.S.-centric so this list encompasses women in the U.S. wireless market.

I appreciate you recognizing the ladies within wireless and their contribution to our industry. I would also remind you there is another very important side of our industry which is not recognized here and that is the infrastructure of wireless. Women such as Pat Tant, Sr. Vice President of Marketing for Excell Communications, has made a tremendous contribution to wireless in the development of the national State Wireless Association Program (SWAP) that now serves over 34 states.

Poseurs like Laura Marriott should never be on such and honor filled list. A Patricia Russo would have been much more appropriate.

My hats off for them aswell.

Keep up the great work ladies

Sue, I appreciate that you acknowledge that your coverage is US-centric and that most of your readers are in the US, but it would not hurt to define the US scope more clearly in this and other Fierce Wireless writings.

Cristina Domceq has done nothing but convince a pile of investors to throw a lot of money at a huge boondogle - there is not way that 'SpinVox' can be considered successful, they are heading straight into the ocean.

What about Karima Bawa, Exec VP Legal at Research In Motion? She practically runs that company, and they are hotter than anything on that list ... (Sprint? ha ha...)
