Why it was a Fierce 15: The proud owner of www.where.com, uLocate looked to be one startup that would continue to innovate and shape the mobile location-based services landscape. ULocate struck carrier deals with Boost Mobile, Helio, AT&T, Sprint Nextel, Alltel and MetroPCS as well as partnerships with Autodesk, Navteq, TeleAtlas, MapQuest and iDEN GPS company Trackem. What has happened since it was awarded the Fierce 15: ULocate has added more developers to its ranks, and is still betting on the Where.com brand name. The company said its Where offering is a top download on leading platforms such as iPhone, BlackBerry, Android and Palm. The company also has added new partners such as T-Mobile USA, Virgin Mobile and Palm, and has deepened existing relationships with carriers such as AT&T, which has preloaded Where on most of its GPS-capable devices. ULocate said it will reach cashflow positive by the end of the summer.
