Why it's Fierce: Network performance testing is nothing new, but what makes VeriWave unique is its approach. The company provides the development, integration, pre-sale marketing and support of a testing solution for LAN and wireless LAN networks that reduces test times from months to days.

Instead of testing how a network performs using a single device, VeriWave's software generates hundreds of unique clients that can each run their own applications to provide a view of what real-world stresses on access points in a network would be like. According to Eran Karoly, VeriWave's vice president of marketing, this approach has been accepted by equipment vendors such as Cisco, HP and Motorola that are building infrastructure for corporate networks. VeriWave has some big-name customers, too, including Qualcomm, Intel, Research In Motion, GE Healthcare, Sprint Nextel and Verizon Wireless, and has over 4,200 test cases.

What's next: VeriWave's WaveAgent solution, a software utility loaded onto a networking device that provides device-specific measurements, will soon be getting support for the Symbian OS. The company is also working on adding support for Apple's iPhone.
