ABI: Mobile data offloading set to explode
As mobile data traffic continues to grow, so will the efforts to offload that traffic onto other networks, according to a new report from ABI Research. The report said that around 16 percent of mobile data traffic today is diverted from cellular via WiFi, femtocells, data optimization and other methods--and that figure is expected to increase to 48 percent by 2015. However, because the sheer volume of data traffic is expected to grow by a factor of 30, the amount of offloaded data will expand 100-fold, ABI said. The report emphasizes that, of all the offloading mechanisms, media optimization will play the largest role in reducing traffic. Release
