All eyes on Palm ahead of earnings

Palm made a splashy debut with the Pre back in June, its first phone running its webOS platform, and investors should get their first real look at how the device performed when the smartphone maker announces its quarterly results tomorrow. Analysts expect Palm to report that it sold between 500,000 and 550,000 Pre units in the quarter. But, according to Avian Securities, that's just the start. Avian analyst Matt Thornton said Palm is dealing with greater-than-expected Pre demand, and that a reduction in price by Sprint Nextel as well as expansion into Europe should help further boost sales.
