Alltel pays $1.33M to settle Midwest Wireless deal

Alltel will pay $1.33 million to settle allegations that it violated conditions imposed on its acquisition of Midwest Wireless. As part of the acquisition, Alltel agreed to maintain the Midwest Wireless assets until the acquisition was complete so that it could then divest its service in some rural Minnesota counties over anti-trust concerns, but Minnesota Attorney General Lori Swanson and the Department of Justice contend that Alltel failed to maintain those assets. The state is set to rake in $745,000 of the settlement, while the DOJ will get $580,000.
