Alltel, Samsung partner on movie promo deal

Alltel and Samsung are partnering to give customers a 2GB microSD card pre-loaded with the Mission Impossible movie trilogy when they buy a Samsung Delve from Alltel.

The deal, which is being done in conjunction with Paramount Digital Entertainment, is the first time Samsung and Paramount have partnered to bring feature-length movies to consumers without passing on the cost to carriers or consumers, Alltel said. The move could also be seen as a way to add some spark to Alltel's brand in the wake of its acquisition by Verizon Wireless.

The microSD card is available with the purchase of the Delve from Feb. 20 through April 16. Alltel is selling the Delve for $49.99 with a two-year contract. Once customers buy the Delve, they can send in a mail-in redemption card to receive the microSD card within four to six weeks.

Alltel has said it is continuing to operate in the wireless markets that Verizon agreed to divest as part of its $28.1 billion acquisition of the regional carrier. The territory spans 22 states and covers 2.2 million subscribers.
