Analyst: 802.11n gear falls short in testing

According to independent tests performed by Craig Mathias of Fairpoint Group, the first round of IEEE Draft N-compliant wireless networking gear from Netgear and Buffalo Technology was disappointing in terms of performance and interoperability. The tests took place in a typical home environment and analyzed Buffalo's AirStation Nfiniti router and client, which makes use of Broadcom's Intensi-fi chipset and Netgear's RangeMax Next client and routers. "Draft N is misleading... we couldn't even get the equipment to talk to each other. That [lack of interoperability] was surprising," said Mathias, who couldn't get Netgear's equipment to communicate with Buffalo's. "We couldn't even get the two Netgear systems to talk."
