Analyst: Clearwire to launch in nine markets in 2009

The analyst firm and WiMAX-watcher ThinkEquity is predicting that the new Clearwire will launch in nine markets in 2009, and will need to raise an additional $3 billion in capital by 2010, which will allow the company to break even by 2014. ThinkEquity said in addition to the launch in Portland this month, it expects one market to launch late in the second quarter, with two more in the summer and fall and five markets in the last three months of the year. It appears as though Clearwire has made some progress cleaning up Sprint's latest disaster - Xohm.

They probably scrapped Sprints "killjoy" processes and the 100's upon 100's of worthless PMs.

It was employees like you that caused the problem, no wonder they fired you.

I wonder how many millions of subs Sprint lost in the 4th quarter?

Sprint gives wireless a bad name.

Friends don't let friends use Sprint wireless

Friends don't let friends use high priced AT&T and Verizon either. Hold on to your pocket books and wallets!!!

It's funny too how AT&T and Verizon are trying to steal all of Sprints customers. Yet they both use Motorola for their handsets. Verizon uses Motorola for their fancy new tv service too. Just go outside your house - guess what you see on the outside of your home? An enormous box with the name - you guessed it - MOTOROLA and that huge DVR box in your living room from your pals at Verizon. I could barely move it for my friend. How can you take someones customers and use their vendor too??? It probably costs a fortune for them to have all that equipment in peoples homes. Some people are praying and hoping that Sprint and especially Motorola will fall off the face of the earth. Move aside MICROSOFT - I guess its time for you to go over the cliff too. It is very difficult to topple the four kings of innovation. They go like this No.1 is Microsoft, No.2 is Motorola No.3 Sprint(always promoting innovation - Sprint is constantly in the relentless pursuit of innovation (now - Wimax)and NO.4 Samsung - they build great phones and always makes some kind of innovative features in their phones. You know they are the leaders because every time you see something - in print they are the most talked about. Often imitated but never duplicated. Quitting is not an option for these innovators and Alcatel-Lucent for that matter either. They are still standing and will stand tall for years to come. They don't call Sprint the no#1 carrier to Business for nothing. They are the only carrier that uses the word innovation in their ads and promos. What about the other two??? Best plans, most reliable 3G in America, industry leading Push-to-talk to America and 6 international countries, their web is more reliable then some of the other carriers, they have the most can-do (productive)phones. The list just goes on and on.

clearwire is a ponzi scheme. they need much more than an additional 3B to cover 120M pops. There is NO CHANCE they will "break even" in 2014 either. Also, does it raise any ey ebrows that they will launch a whole "NINE" markets this year? WOW!!! Now that's progress towards their stated goal of 120M pops by 2010, I guess that means in 2010 they will need to build 50+ markets. Go get 'em clearwires! P O N Z I

Clearwire has made no announcement about how many markets it is launching this year. That is the opinion of this analyst. So Clearwire managed to sucker the likes of Intel, Google, and major cable operators into this so-called ponzi scheme?

Are the nine markets a guess or a forecast based on Clear statements or evidence?

for all the people hatin on sprint, please dont switch to sprint once they come out with there 4g handsets... Thanks!!

If Clearwire is a giant ponzi scheme - then what is AT&T and Verizon's LTE? An effort clean out the pockets of the American consumer. Some one please tell me.

What is ThinkEquity's interest in Clearwire...objective, subjective, or conflicted?
Equity analysts have as much credibility these days as rats in a toilet bowl of rotted cheese.
