Analysts: Ericsson to buy UTStarcom, Harbor Networks

Market analysts speculate that UTStarcom or Harbor Networks are the most likely acquisition targets for Ericsson following its purchase of London-based Marconi for $2.1 billion. Ericsson has announced plans to acquire a China-based company but has not yet specified its target. Analysts see each of these companies as supplements to Ericsson's data-networking business in the country. While many consider Harbor Networks' data product as the better one, UTStarcom's complete marketing network would bring obvious advantages. UTStarcom is reportedly on the prowl for overseas alliances, and Harbor Networks is thirsty for cash after getting the squeeze from rival Huawei Technologies. Recently, Harbor looked to Siemens for an acquisition, but neither company confirmed the reports.
