Anticipation for 3G iPhone grows

Tools

Anticipation is mounting in advance of Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference on Monday in San Francisco, where the 3G iPhone is expected to make its debut.  Analysts and others are speculating on what special features the phone will have and how much it will cost the consumer.

Avian Securities analyst Matt Thornton believes that unlike the first-generation iPhone, the 3G iPhone will be subsidized to a price point in the range of $200 to $300 to keep its retail price more in line with other devices, such as RIM's Pearl and Curve, which are priced in the $99 to $199 range.

Likewise, research firm Analysys Mason is saying that the 3G iPhone will provide a compelling mobile TV and video proposition because it will have video-friendly specifications, including a widescreen display, substantial internal memory and low battery consumption. And it will have access to video content from Apple that is optimized for the iPhone and available via the iTunes store.

Of course, no one really knows for sure what the 3G iPhone will cost or what special functions it will enable. Fierce has compiled a slideshow roundup of some of the 3G iPhone rumors and releases. Click here to check it out.
