AT&T planning June launch of 'All In One' prepaid brand

AT&T Mobility (NYSE:T) is planning to launch new prepaid services under the "All In One" brand June 15, according to people familiar with the matter. The carrier will likely offer a $35 per month service for feature phones and a $50 per month service for smartphones.

An AT&T spokesman declined to comment.

AT&T's All In One brand will likely offer unlimited talking and texting and a data allotment (it's unclear how much) for $35 per month for feature phones. For smartphones, the carrier will offer unlimited talking and texting and 2 GB of HSPA data for $50. The carrier may also offer a $70 smartphone plan that includes 5 GB of data. Users' data speeds will be slowed if they consume more than their allotted data for the month.

AT&T will test the plans in Florida and Texas this month, and has scheduled a nationwide launch of the service for June 15.

Sources noted that the details of the plans could change before they are launched.

AT&T's planned All In One offering would represent a strategic stab against Verizon Wireless (NYSE:VZ) as well as other prepaid carriers. Verizon recently launched a $35 prepaid plan for feature phone that includes unlimited mobile Web and texting and 500 calling minutes. And in February, Verizon effectively cut the price of its high-end prepaid smartphone plan from $80 to $70. Further, T-Mobile US (NYSE:TMUS) is working to promote its new "uncarrier" service that includes unlimited voice and texting and 2 GB of data for $60 per month.

AT&T's new emphasis on prepaid isn't a surprise. The carrier is working to increase sales of its high-end LTE smartphones, which is freeing up space on the carrier's HSPA network. Indeed, AT&T expects to cover around 270 million POPs with LTE by the end of this year.

AT&T reported losing 184,000 prepaid subscribers in the first quarter "primarily due to declines in session-based tablets and declines in GoPhone," the carrier said. The figures are a reversal of the 125,000 prepaid subscribers the carrier added in the same quarter a year ago.

It's unclear whether AT&T's All In One offering would replace the carrier's existing GoPhone prepaid service, or if it would sit alongside GoPhone. Via GoPhone, AT&T offers a range of options including unlimited talking and texting and 1 GB of data for smartphone users. AT&T also offers a $25 per month GoPhone option that includes unlimited texting and 250 voice minutes.

AT&T already offers wireline calling services under the "All In One" brand.
