Best Buy Mobile kicks off in Dallas

Best Buy settled on Dallas as the place where it will open its first stand-alone Best Buy Mobile store, the first of 40 the big box retailer has planned for the fiscal year. The company has made the stand-alone retail stores a key part of its plan to boost its share of the U.S. mobile phone market. The stores will offer a wide selection of prepaid, unlocked and carrier-subsidized devices, in addition to other wireless products. Best Buy will next roll out the stand-alone stores in Boston, Houston, Los Angeles and Miami. Article

Odd article, as it states that Dallas will be first. Locally, the Fairfax, Virginia store in Fair Oaks Mall was second to the Minneapolis store, according to the Fairfax store's manager. They claim these are "testing" stores but they are fully-functional, and have been up and running for months. Simply another excuse for a press release to tech writers, I suppose, but Best Buy Mobile has been around. The new stores are somewhat modeled in the "Carphone Warehouse" style, for those of you who visit the UK (something of a joint venture with that firm, as I understand).
