President George Bush is easing restrictions and allowing Americans to send cell phones to their families in Cuba. The president's statement follows Cuban announcements that citizens there would be allowed to own cell phones and computers, and that DVDs and toasters would be available in coming years. It's expected to take effect in a few weeks but it is uncertain whether the cell phones will work there and how much wireless service will cost.

The president argued for political change in the country as well, saying Cubans should be allowed to "speak freely in public" and "stop worrying about whether they have bread every day."
