Details are sketchy, but according to documents from cable trade group CableLabs, the cable industry is considering an aggressive step into the wireless, WiFi and WiMax arena to keep ahead of DSL rivals. The initiative, called CableRoam, would allow the industry to offer more wireless services such as broadband and VoIP and connect to a variety of wireless technologies such as citywide WiFi networks, WiMax and home-based WiFi networks.
