Cablevision completes first-phase of WiFi network

Cablevision Systems has finished the first phase of its WiFi network in New York and says it is on track to complete the project in two years. The cable operator is offering WiFi free to its 2.4 million broadband customers.

The WiFi network is expected to cost the company about $310 million. Initially the network is intended to allow people to access the Internet, however Cablevision has said that it will eventually offer other services including voice and video.
